“A Little piece of heaven” - avenged sevenfold - song of the day

The Friday Freak!

Written by drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, it is the ninth song from Avenged Sevenfold’s self-titled fourth album, and garnered vast popularity among fans even without being released as a single.

While totally unrelated, A Little Piece of Heaven [and all subsequent tracks from their self titled album] remind me of the smell of my hometown. Friday night lights, cool october air, astro turf, and cigarette smoke. The ambiance of small town Pennsylvania at 17 years old - angst, anger, and dope riffs with Danny Elfman whimsicality. This song has it all.

Stretching to eight full minutes and delivering an onslaught of censorship worthy lyrics and graphic depiction, do not let the horns and strings fool you… This is as f*cked up as it gets. A necropheliac boyfriend being rejected by his girlfriend, and we’re asking mom to take us to Hot Topic to buy the new tees. [absolutely].

A Little Piece of Heaven isn’t just for shock’s sake, it’s a declaration of musicality and talent demonstrated by a bunch of California punks, showcasing all of their heroes’ colors and shades in one frankensteinian mega-tribute-ballad. [Drawing on notes of Mr. Bungle, Queen, & My Chemical Romance to name a few]. Not many tracks encapsulate the aura of Avenged Sevenfold’s hayday better than Heaven does, and it lasts with an intense dose of nostalgia upon every listen.

Live from the LBC will knock your d*ck off.
